Understand Your Buyer > How To Get Attention > The Freebie Effect
What is it?
The Freebie Effect is about seizing attention and staying visible using promotional merchandise.
Why does it work?
It works because we all love something that’s free – especially if it’s something useful and that we would have otherwise spent money on.
Couple that with the reciprocity created by receiving something for free and the propinquity value of items (such as pens or umbrellas) that are with you for years still bearing the logo of the giver and you can see how freebies and promotional items are a great marketing tool.
How can you use it?
Think about what kind of “freebies” are most relevant to your offering- if at all. Physical goods, branded with your logo that will be as useful as possible and last as long as possible are ideal.
Being creative pays here, so don’t be confined to pens and umbrellas, what other more unique and relevant items could you provide?
Example
Tony’s Chocolonely actively offer personalised Chocolate bars that you can personalise to use as a promotional item.
