Relatable Moment Effect

Understand Your Buyer > How To Get Attention > Relatable Moment Effect

What is it?

Using relatable, contextual, real world moments in your messaging can help buyers connect with and remember your business/offer.

Why does it work?

It works because it’s relatable.

If you relate to something (like having a toothbrush at their place) then you know that the business that’s advertising to you understands you and thus are best placed to help you get where you want to be. We think and act differently when it comes to familiar things that are part of our world so it makes sense to reference them in your messaging.

How can you use it?

You have to consider what the relatable moment(s) might be for your offer. What are the real world, contextual situations, moments, or milestones that will be relevant and meaningful to your buyer?

Example

Whilst you’ve probably never been to the gym and the person helping you is tied up…. this advert makes you relate to the feeling of powerlessness that is at the heart of their message. You place yourself in the image – probably imagining yourself as the tied up /constrained person and the conseuences that will result from the situation.
