Negative Connotation Names

Understand Your Buyer > How To Lose The Sale > Negative Connotation Names

What is it?

This is all about when your name can mean something else, be used against you or have an unfortunate abbreviation.

Why does it work?

As humans our brains connect the dots between the things we see and hear which usually is a good thing.

But.

If the abbreviation of your company nearly spells a rude word (Abbreviate Ferrari UK  to see this in action) then it can be an issue… and one that can be avoided but not resolved if it exists.

How can you use it?

This is more relevant when naming something and preparing to avoid issues.

There are a couple of things to be mindful of:

  • Abbreviations – FAFS
  • Seemingly OK words that imply great things and can be used against you – EVRI who “mess up every delivery”
  • Bad translations of your name into other languages

Example

This company, Fire Alarm Fabrication Services have abbreviated their name to FAFS. The problem is, in English to “faff” is to waste time which isn’t the best impression to make with your company name.
